Groups organize users into logical entities. With Groups you can communicate with its users directly or assign them set of courses. Groups come with Mass actions (1) to synchronize its users with its courses.
Each group has a unique identifier (1). You can share this identifier with end-users. They can use it to become members of that particular group and get its assigned courses.
